MARK WINS FIRST TWO STAGES OF TOUR OF IRELAND

Mark has won his second consecutive stage of the Tour of Ireland today following up his sprint victory yesterday. He once again proved too strong for his rivals on stage two, crossing the line ahead of Michael Van Staeyen (Rabobank) in second - full report and gallery on Cycling Weekly>

NO OLYMPIC MEDAL - NOW TO IRELAND

Mark missed out on an Olympic medal in the Madison finishing 9th with partner Bradley Wiggins. The race proved tough for the Madison World Champions as they were a marked team never allowed to make a decisive attack.

 

Mark now heads to Tour of Ireland starting 27th August...

 


BEIJING BOUND

Mark returned to action in a selection of post Tour criteriums last week before heading to the Manchester Velodrome to focus on track training with GB coach Rod Ellingworth.

 

Mark prepares for Olympics

 

British Cycling's Larry Hickmott caught up with Mark at the Velodrome and a comprehensive report and interview is now available on the British Cycling website.

 

After the track training in Manchester Mark will fly to Beijing late to link up with Team GB and Bradley Wiggins. The Madison does not take placed until Tuesday 19th August giving Mark extra time to prepare for the event - the race can be watched online on www.bbc.co.uk starting 10.30am GMT.

 


MARK LEAVES TOUR - ON HIS WAY TO OLYMPICS

Mark spoke with Team Manager Bob Stapleton and the British Cycling coaches and decided not to start stage 15. After a record breaking four stage wins Mark will now turn his attention to the Olympics which begin in a few weeks.

 

Mark sent this message when we caught up with him on his way for a few days rest in the Isle of Man:

 

"A massive thank you to everyone who has supported me and sent messages. I've had so many emails and texts. I'm sorry I haven't been able to reply to everyone but I wanted to say how much I appreciate the messages of support."

 

Mark is now scheduled to race a couple of post Tour criteriums before joining up with the GB squad and Madison partner Bradley Wiggins - destination Beijing.

Cav notched up another win in the final stage of the Ster Elektrotoer on June 21st continuning to show excellent form. He will now compete in the British Road Race Championships on June 29th before heading to the Tour de France where he will look for stage wins in the first week. The plan is to then leave the race and join the GB track squadin preparation for the Olympic games...

Cav scores his second Grand Tour stage victory a few days after his 23rd birthday. He continues his sprint battle with Daniele Bennati just pipping the Italian who has three stages and leads the points classification.
